SANE Certification Exam Details

The next exam will be offered in April 2018. The application window will open in early 2018.

 

Before applying to sit for either the SANE-A® or SANE-P® certification examination, please download the 2018 Certification Examination Handbook (forthcoming). For reference, see the 2017 Certification Examination Handbook. It includes all the information you need: the eligibility requirements, the fees and deadlines, sources for exam preparation, and a fillable-PDF application. 

 

 

Eligibility Checklist

  • 2 or more years' practice as an RN
  • Completion of a minimum 40-hr SANE course by an accredited provider
  • 300 hours of SANE practice within the past 3 years (at least 200 with the     intended exam population)

    Fees

    Application/Test Fee:  

    $275 IAFN members (US/Canada) / $400 Non-members (US/Canada)

    $350 International members / $450 International Non-members 

     

    Late Application/Test Fee:

    $425 IAFN members (US/Canada) / $550 Non-members (US/Canada)

    $500 International members / $600 International Non-members 

     

    Retesting:

    $150 for member applicants who retest for the first time within one year / $225 for non-member applicants who retest for the first time within one year

    Spring Certification Exam Dates: April 1-30, 2018

    January 8, 2018 - Application Window Opens

    February 7, 2018 - Application Window Closes at 4:59 PM ET

    February 14, 2018 - Late Filing Window Closes at 4:59 PM ET

     

    Fall Certification Exam Dates: September 1-30, 2018

    June 1, 2018 - Application Window Opens

    July 5, 2018 - Application Window Closes at 4:59 PM ET

    July 12, 2018 - Late Filing Window Closes at 4:59 PM ET

    Commission for Forensic Nursing Certification

    Certification granted by the Commission for Forensic Nursing Certification (CFNC) is pursuant to a voluntary procedure intended solely to test for special knowledge. The CFNC does not purport to license, to confer a right to privilege upon, nor otherwise to define the qualifications of any person for nursing practice. The significance of certification in any jurisdiction or institution is the responsibility of the candidate to determine. The candidate should contact the appropriate nursing body or institution to determine practice implications.
