1. Question: Why should I recruit members to IAFN?

Of course, there is the recognition and valuable awards being offered to recruiters as a part of this campaign, but more than that, you should recruit at least one new IAFN member to increase the impact of nurses who work with victims and perpetrators of violence. The more members we have, the greater our ability to influence the care of our patients and the future of the nurses (like yourself) who work in emergency and trauma settings.

2. Question: How long does the “Member Get a Member” Campaign last?

The current membership campaign will run from March 1, 2019 through June 30, 2019 with awards announced monthly and awarded at the IAFN Annual Conference in New Orleans in September 2019.

3. Question: How do I receive credit for recruiting a member?

Help them join! The best way to get credit is if you help them register online or, once they are ready to sign up, send an introduction email to membership@forensicnurses.org. Remember, if they register online, they must put your name down as the “recruiter” for you to receive credit. Take the opportunity of helping them register online to orient them to the website, navigate to the JFN, and post on the member community.

To confirm someone joined, e-mail membership@forensicnurses.org to verify that the new membership has been established and that you have been credited as the recruiter.

5. Question: Does a recruit have to be brand new to IAFN or do former members count too?

Former members or brand new to IAFN, it doesn’t matter, as long as the “recruited by” section of the application is filled in with the recruiters full name. Renewing members DO NOT count as new members.

6. Question: Can two or more members get partial credit for recruiting a new member?

No, each new member can only have one recruiter credited. Should an application be received with more than one person listed in the “recruited by” section, only the first person named will receive credit.

7. Question: Who should I be recruiting?

You should seek out anyone who qualifies to be a member of IAFN. They may be

  • a registered nurse or advanced practice nurse devoting time to the care of victims and/or perpetrators of violence
  •  nurses who are teaching in academic forensic nursing programs
  • those who work in the emergency services field such as technicians, physicians, physician’s assistants, and EMTs
  • law enforcement, prosecutors, researchers and others.

The membership categories include regular, associate, or student. You earn one (1) point regardless of the category of membership.
