In 2017, actor and activist Mariska Hargitay, in partnership with HBO, released her first documentary: I AM EVIDENCE. I AM EVIDENCE exposes the alarming number of untested rape kits in the United States through a character–driven narrative, bringing much needed attention to the disturbing pattern of how the criminal justice system has historically treated sexual assault survivors. This film seeks to send a clear message to survivors that they matter, that our communities will do everything possible to bring them a path to healing and justice, and that their perpetrators will be held accountable for their crimes.

The International Association of Forensic Nurses is proud to be a partner of the I AM EVIDENCE social action campaign which, led by Mariska's Joyful Heart Foundation, aims to shine a spotlight on the untested rape kit backlog and inspire people to join the movement to end it. By screening the film in communities across the globe, we can begin a dialogue about how and why this happened, and what we as professionals and as citizens of this country can do to #endthebacklog and ensure it does not happen again.
