Description

This is an intense didactic training that follow the educational guidelines of the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) and will prepare you for clinicals required by the Texas Office of Attorney General CA-CP Certification. Objectives: Explain historical perspective for the development of minimum education standards for the practice of the sexual assault nurse examiner/forensic nurse Describe role of the registered nurse as a sexual assault nurse examiner in providing care to the patient with a complaint of sexual assault or abuse Discuss sociological perspectives of sexual assault impacting nursing management for patient-centered care of the adult/adolescent patient with a complaint of sexual assault or abuse Discuss the importance of multidisciplinary team concepts in the community response to meet the needs of the patient with a complaint of sexual assault or abuse Illustrate role of the sexual assault nurse examiner during a medical forensic examination of an adult/adolescent patient with a complaint of sexual assault Identify components of the sexual assault examination for the adult/adolescent patient with a complaint of sexual assault or abuse Describe essential components of documentation during the medical forensic examination of the patient with a complaint of sexual assault or abuse Appraise treatment modalities individualized to the adult/adolescent patient with a complaint of sexual assault or abuse using the nursing process Demonstrate the concurrent process of collection of forensic evidence [actual and/or potential] during the medical forensic examination of the patient with a complaint of sexual assault or abuse This class is designed to: Provide an overview of the response to sexual assault from a community wide perspective Teach individuals about the role of a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner in the response to sexual assault Prepare individuals to provide for the care and treatment of adult/adolescent patients presenting with a complaint of sexual assault or abuse
