Description

The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, Adolescent and Adult course provides interested nurses with the knowledge and skills to provide the highest standards of care for victims of sexual assault. The course follows the most current SANE Education Guidelines as published by the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN). This course is taught by experts in the areas of forensic nursing, law enforcement, and criminal prosecution. It emphasizes the tenets of care most important to the successful sexual assault evidence collection exam, includes the role of victim advocacy, and explains the role of the interdisciplinary Sexual Assault Response Team (SART). This course serves as the “classroom” portion of the national certification requirements offered through IAFN. Students will learn the theory, research base, and legal rationale for protocols used by sexual assault nurse examiners. All training is consistent with the standards of practice as defined by the ANA Scope and Standards of Forensic Nursing Practice. All registered nurses are invited to attend.
